What Counts as “Sugar?”
What does it mean when someone says “I quit sugar?” You will find almost as many “sugar-free” approaches as you find types of vegetarians. Some just want to cut back, some just want to feel less compulsive around sweets. Some want to cut out refined or artificial sugars, others want to stick to sugars found in whole foods, and some want to cut out carbs all together. Sugar-Zen Stage I is the foundation for all the other levels and is the core of most of the Sugar-Zen program. It is the part that addresses all of the components of your relationship with Sugar. The other levels are determined by your desired level of sugar, you will phase out sugars in a way that avoids deprivation, restriction, and the old “dieting” mindset.
All Sugar-Zen members generally start at Level I (Sugar-Zen) and work toward their desired level of sugar consumption, with clear levels that gradually lower your sugar intake as you progress through the program. Members work to consistently take just 10 minutes a day working on the program in the member portal, with proven success!
Is Sugar-Zen a Nutrition, Mental Health, or Medical Program?
At Sugar-Zen, we talk about every aspect of your sugar addiction, which includes the mind and emotions, your health, your blood sugar, and your diet. The program was developed in consultation with nutritionists, mental health professionals, and the latest medical research. Sugar-Zen has brought all the elements together to offer practical advice, tools, support, and encouragement for everyday life. Sugar-Zen is not your therapist, dietitian, psychiatrist, doctor, nutritionist, nor any other specialist. Sugar-Zen members are responsible for their own choices around that advice and are encouraged to work with their own licensed specialists as they see fit in support of their efforts.
It’s true that we can sometimes use sugar as an emotional coping tool to hide things from ourselves. So we encourage you to seek personal professional help if addressing your relationship to sugar brings up more difficulty than you feel you can comfortably manage on your own with an online support program.
How Long is the Sugar-Zen Sugar Addiction Support Program?
Sugar-Zen starts with a 30-day program to give you the tools you need to break free from sugar addiction. We add new support videos continually, so you can continue your membership for ongoing support after the starter period. This lays the foundation of true long-term change, which is why we don’t advocate the “Get Off Sugar in 14 Days!” approach. Maybe that works for some, but that didn’t work for for those of us the Sugar-Zen team that have been on this merry-go-round too many times—only to fall right off with a belly-ache. That’s why we developed a program that offers longer term support, which has become the root of the program’s success.
Due to this approach, you are asked to complete just one guide every day. Once you’ve completed a daily guide, it stays unlocked for you to access again at any time. Many members go back and revisit previous guides for their daily ten minutes rather than just rushing along to the next one. Every guide offers a new tip or approach to changing your relationship with sugar. Some will become favorites, others may be used less often, but as long as you are a Sugar-Zen member, you will be continually adding knowledge and “arrows to your quiver”—new tools and ways to approach your relationship with sweets—and food in general.
Our goal is to become a trusted friend that offers long-term, practical support. Not just a “quick fix.”
